"To paint with light. To carve with space. All in a shimmering field where the image is forever one with the
reality around it. Never seen the same way twice."

These words best describe what led to my choice of glass as a medium of artistic expression. There is something inherently beautiful about glass in its infinite variety of color and substance. It appeals to the child in all of us - that magpie lust for shiny, sparkling objects which we never outgrow. There’s always a new view depending upon your angle of vision, from the light that’s shimmering off and through it and the reality around the piece. |

A variety of art courses in different mediums have helped to shape my vision. I worked in
stained glass for
10 years and also studied fused glass, lampworking and glass blowing. Eventually I chose
to work mainly in
fused glass. My design ideas are also shaped by courses I’ve taken in drawing, painting,
sculpture, jewelry,
pottery, metal working, photography and anything that came along related to art. Glass
has a polished beauty
to the finished work which entices me to try again and again to stretch it’s limits and to
discover what else can
be done with it. There is no end to what our minds can imagine or to what we can derive
inspiration from. Each
person can see and appreciate a different facet of the glass which appeals to something
inside them. With
glass I can truly live in interesting times! |
